I have lived all my life in a glass house. Maybe it's because I went to an extremely conservative Christian school all my life. Maybe it's because I was subjected to obnoxiously strict rules in my household. Maybe it's because I have this overwhelming obsession with pleasing my mom. I don't know, but for whatever reason, I would not consider the first 19 years of my life to be lived to the fullest. I see all this world happening around me, and here I am, stuck behind this invisible shield... Now, don't get me wrong... I have lived a wonderful life. Everything necessary (and more) to be comfortable has been at my fingertips. Maybe with an exception of adventure.
I have never been to the Opera. Nor have I heard of any of the Opera's mentioned in class. I went to a Broadway play once... Annie Get Your Gun... but I don't remember it. I have never been a fan of Opera music either. Like the "yodeling..." yeh, not my thing. But I do know something good when I see it, and I gotta say: She's the one on stage (not me.) She's the one with the paycheck (not me.) She's the one with opera-like talent (not me.) So I gotta give her props. She has a fantastic talent, and I love that she's out there in the world utilizing it! The clips showed in class were awesome, though. I'm not going to lie. Even though I may not watch them on my own accord, they were interesting to analyze and critique.
I always find it interesting to plot out the evolution of technology. It's fascinating to me how far we've come, or, in some opinions, how far we've strayed. Back then, these Operas were a huge deal... flambouyant outfits, good music, and talented actors. Now-a-days, your outfit, your voice, your face, your makeup, the scene your in, the lighting, and the special effects (to name a few) can be altered, added, and removed using computers. Personally, I think it removes a very raw, yet appreciated, aspect out of the whole experience.
Sorry if I seem a bit all over the place tonight. It's been a long first week, and I'm already tired. I am looking forward to encountering more of life in this class though...

Kassie,
Considering I am new to this blogging I just read your comment on my first entry. THANK YOU. Thank you so much for appreciating what I had to write. It really means so much more knowing people are actually reading this! I hope I can inspire you in any way possible, and you do the same for me. I read that you have been to one broadway show, I would love to be able to help inform you on broadway. It has always been a big part of my life and I like to share it with anyone who is willing to listen and wants to learn. I can see you have a lot of personality to you considering your answers in "Life in a Nutshell". I look forward to seeing what you get out of this class and reading more of your entries. See you Thursday!
Daniella
